UE PlantsTerrarium grown plants, propagated by Understory Enterprises Inc. in Ontario, Canada. For plant inquiries contact Plants@IndoorEcosystems.com.
Origin: Peru
Description: This is a curious species from the richly diverse lowland forests of far Eastern Loreto, Peru. Under a dense canopy this species grows in the shaded depth of the understory tightly clinging to and creep up the massive trunks and buttresses of giant Amazonian trees.
This plant does best in medium to low light and if its needs are adequately met, the mature velvety foliage of this modestly sized plant will darken to almost black. An excellent terrarium species, especially those with some extra height allowing it to stretch out and creep up a background. It should also be suitable as a houseplant for those patient enough to acclimate it to tolerate less humid conditions. Given a pole and time the full potential of this species might surprise us!
The ranges of Ranitomeya uakarii and most likely R. amazonica and R. reticulata directly overlap this species. It is highly probable that R. flavovitatta, R. yavaricola as well as Ameerega hahneli, A. bilinguis and A. trivittata creep about the forests this spectacular plant grows in.
